While most students spent the summer relaxing and taking a break from the stress of schoolwork, K.O.C. Ambassadors committed their summer months to working paid internships. In order for K.O.C. sophomores, also known as Ambassadors, progress into their junior year as Managers, they must have some industry-specific work experience, which we hlp provide to them. These industries ranged as widely as the interests of our Ambassadors do, and as such there has been a diverse influx of new ideas and inspirations into our Manager class.
Some of our Ambassadors worked together on programs surrounding architecture and engineering at Moonlighter Miami, a co-working space focused on fabrication and creation. From 3D printing to laser cutting, our Ambassadors had firsthand exposure to the cutting edge of design and product production. Moonlighter puts an emphasis on a STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education for high schoolers and how such background can grow into professional and academic successes.
Deepening the experiences with technology, other Ambassadors spent their summer working for increasingly online-specific businesses. A number of students worked in the field of Digital Marketing, learning the methodology behind online advertisements, social media campaigns, and market engagement. Through studying about demographics and ways to target them for advertising, all of our Ambassadors in the field earned a baseline-level certification in digital marketing!
Additionally, we had an Ambassador focus their efforts this summer with PomDocs, a telemedicine company focused on providing medical evaluations, consultations, diagnostics, and treatment plans through an online conferencing platform. Specialized in pediatrics, PomDocs allows patients and their parents to attend check-ups and appointments with their doctors from home, whether that be nearby or in another country!. Our Ambassador working in the field learned about all the legal restrictions surrounding telemedicine regarding privacy and payment, and hopes to use it to develop their own Community Impact Project further.
Continuing the health trend, our Ambassador Donna spent the summer shadowing the pediatric department at University of Miami Hospital. Between pediatrics and pediatric surgery, she enjoyed a full-spectrum exposure to the many steps and intricacies involved in a patient’s care. Donna is committed to a career in medicine and found this initial experience invaluable in developing an in-depth knowledge base on the field.
